How do I enter my dog into the cities dog photo rolodex?

The City of Agency maintains a Dog Photo Rolodex to help keep our community’s pets safe and promptly reunited with their owners. This Rolodex includes a photograph of each registered dog along with the owner’s contact information.

If a dog is found wandering within city limits, City staff will compare the animal to the photos on file, identify the dog, and attempt to reach out to the owner. 

Residents are encouraged to keep their dog’s photo and contact details up to date to assist in the city’s efforts to maintain a safe and pet-friendly community.

Are chickens allowed in town?

Yes. Chickens are allowed within the City of Agency, but there are restrictions on how they may be kept.

Residents may keep up to three (3) chickens on their property. Roosters are not permitted.

Under Chapter 1 – Animal Control, Sections 4-1-9, 4-1-11, and 4-1-12 of the City of Agency Code of Ordinances, chickens and other fowl must be kept confined to the owner's premises. They may not be allowed to run onto another person's property, public streets, or public places. Animals must also be kept in a manner that does not disturb the peace and comfort of neighbors or create a public health concern.

In short: Yes, chickens are allowed in Agency — up to three hens, no roosters, and they must be kept confined to your property.

Are cattle allowed in town?

Yes. Cattle may be kept within the City of Agency as long as the property meets the City's minimum acreage requirement.

Under Chapter 1 – Animal Control, Section 4-1-13 – Cattle—Restrictions, it is unlawful and constitutes a nuisance for any person to bring, collect upon, keep, maintain, or feed cattle on less than five (5) acres of pasture ground within the city limits that is owned, leased, or occupied by that person.

In short: Cattle are allowed within the City of Agency if the owner has at least five (5) acres of pasture ground within the city limits. Properties with less than five (5) acres may not be used to keep, maintain, or feed cattle.

What animals aren't allowed in town?

The City of Agency's Code of Ordinances prohibits certain animals from being kept within the city limits. Under Chapter 1 – Animal Control, Section 4-1-14, it is unlawful and constitutes a nuisance to keep, feed, or maintain certain specified animals within the City. The prohibited animals include:

• Jacks
• Mules
• Donkeys
• Burros
• Ponies
• Goats
• Sheep
• Swine
• Wild or exotic animals
• Snakes that are venomous or constrictors
• Staffordshire Terrier
• American Pit Bull Terrier
• Staffordshire Terrier breeds of dogs
• Lions
• Tigers
• Jaguars
• Leopards
• Cougars
• Lynx
• Bobcat
• Wolves
• Coyotes
• Foxes
• Badgers
• Wolverines
• Weasels
• Skunks
• Minks
• Raccoons
• Bears
• Monkeys
• Chimpanzees
• Apes
• Alligators
• Crocodiles
• Scorpions
• Gila Monsters
• Any cross breed of such animals that have similar characteristics of the animals specified above
• Any animals declared to be dangerous by the City Council

Do dogs need to be vaccinated for rabies?

Yes. Dogs who are six (6) months or older within the City of Agency are required to be vaccinated against rabies.

A tag showing evidence of proper vaccination shall be worn by every dog when not confined.

Are animals required to be confined to their owner's property?

Yes. Animals are not permitted to run at large within the City of Agency.

Under Chapter 1 – Animal Control, Section 4-1-4, owners are responsible for keeping their animals under control and preventing them from running at large. An animal is considered to be running at large when it is off the owner's property and not under the control of its owner or keeper.

What should I do if my dog has been impounded?

If your dog has been impounded by the City, contact City Hall as soon as possible to determine whether your dog is being held and what is required for its release.

Impounded dogs may be recovered by the owner, upon proper identification, by payment of the impounding fee and boarding costs, and the costs of vaccinations if vaccination is required by Section 4-1-3.  If such dogs are not claimed within five (5) days after notice, they shall be disposed of in a humane manner as directed by City Council.
