Resolutions

What Is a Resolution?

A resolution is a formal action taken by the City Council to express the City’s decision, position, approval, or intent on a specific matter. Unlike an ordinance, which establishes or changes a City law, a resolution is generally used for administrative matters, policies, appointments, authorizations, and other actions that do not create a permanent law. In the City of Agency, a resolution is presented to the City Council for consideration at a public meeting. The Council discusses the matter and, when appropriate, votes on the resolution. If approved by a majority vote of the Council members present and voting, the resolution is adopted and becomes an official action of the City. The resolution is then recorded as part of the City’s official records.
